The Millennium Wall Hanging

The design for this wall-hanging came out of reflecting on the contribution our Parish has made towards the work of justice in our world. In particular through our partnerships with our missions in Uganda, The Philippines and Bangladesh, our efforts over the years have been to help bring about a more just society for our brothers and sisters in these countries.

The wall-hanging was displayed in the church during the Millennium year, and was taken down at the end of the year.

All the efforts of our parish would come to nothing unless the power of God's Spirit was working with and through us. Also, we do not always see or recognise the fruits of our labours - we often sow our seeds and pray in hope that the harvest will follow.

We also recognise that there is much still to do, and while we celebrate all the good things that have been achieved we must not lose sight of the tasks that still lie ahead.

The theme chosen for our CELEBRATION WALL-HANGING is 'The Seed Growing Secretly' from Mark 4:26-29.

This is what the Kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know. Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ready, at once he starts to reap because the harvest has come. [Mark 4:26-29.]
We co-operate with God in our 'ploughing and planting' but how our 'seeds' develop is a mystery in the hands of God. We work in Faith, Trust, and Hope that we might experience the Joy of Harvest.

The Seasons of the year remind us of the cycle of life - from birth to death.

In all our work for the Lord, we follow the command to ACT JUSTLY, LOVE TENDERLY and WALK HUMBLY with OUR GOD.
